Reaction of Cardinal Marx to the Pope’s Speech

Pope Francis received the Heads of State and Government of 27 EU Member States on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome. In his speech, he called on them to discern
the paths of hope, identifying specific ways forward to ensure that the significant steps taken thus far have not been wasted, but serve as the pledge of a long and fruitful journey. »

Cardinal Marx, President of COMECE, participated in this audience. Here is his reaction on Vatican Radio.

COMECE is resolutely committed to the participation of the Catholic Church in a constructive debate with a view to identifying,
in dialogue with all actors of goodwill, new solutions to the concrete challenges of our daily life in Europe.
On the theme « Rethinking Europe », COMECE will organise a meeting between bishops and high-level European political representatives in the Vatican from 27 to 29 October 2017.
The 60th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome will be an occasion for the participants to reflect, together with pope Francis, on the issues and choices that are necessary
to restore hope for all women and men in Europe.
