BIRDS ARE SINGING IN KIGALI
April 2019 marks the 25th anniversary of the outbreak of the genocide in Rwanda, during which 800,000 to one million people were slaughtered in the span of 100 days. This 2017 Polish film tells the bittersweet story of healing and resilience and begins in 1994, when a Polish ornithologist doing research in Rwanda saves a young Tutsi woman after her family is murdered in the genocide.
In Poland, the women each struggle in their own way to move on from the visceral horrors they have experienced. This film is about the power of friendship and what it means to forgive, to reconcile, to remember and to mourn.

Avril 2019 marque le 25e anniversaire de l’éclosion du génocide au Rwanda, au cours duquel 800 000 à un million de personnes ont été massacrées en l’espace de 100 jours. Ce film polonais de 2017 raconte l’histoire aigre-douce de la guérison et la résilience, et a commencé en 1994, quand un ornithologue polonais effectuant des recherches au Rwanda sauve une jeune femme tutsie après le meurtre de sa famille lors du génocide.
En Pologne, les femmes luttent chacune à leur manière pour sortir des horreurs viscérales qu’elles ont vécues. Ce film parle du pouvoir de l’amitié et de ce que signifie pardonner, réconcilier, se souvenir et pleurer.
